Before becoming a resident within our residential care home, we invite residents to come and visit us with their nearest and dearest, so they can have a consultation with our Home Manager and Senior Care Team to ensure we meet all your desired needs, making sure we’re the perfect home for you.

Personalised Care Plans

We’re not just carers for our residents; we provide expert advise for our residents' friends and families; it’s an important step in becoming the most effective carers and by doing this, we’re able to build personalised care plans and solutions for each one of our residents.

We’re always striving to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for our residents and other visitors so they can feel as though they’re already apart of our family.

We have always been aware of the value when it comes to developing long-lasting and strong relationships with our residents and their loved ones, which is why we prioritise them, as it allows us to gain a better understanding of our residents.

What is Residential Care?

Residential care includes a range of services designed to ensure we can best assist our residents who require support with everyday tasks an activities. Personal health maintenance, medicine, bathing, dressing and those with limited mobility are all examples of these daily responsibilities. We encourage our residents to treat our care home as if it was their very own home, we like to call it a 'home away from home' and we urge them to go about their life as usual, alongside taking advantage of our many facilities and services.

Our residential care approach ensures we prioritise our residents wellbeing, overall health, fitness and hobbies, making sure they all live a meaningful and productive life. We are dedicated to assisting our residents in living their life how they want to, we promote independence as well as offering care, no matter how little or often. One of our main benefits that our residents love, is being able to have access to our private gardens directly from their en-suite bedrooms. This ensures our residents gain confidence as well as independence towards better health, a more active social life and increased mood swings.

Outdoor Wellbeing Within Our Residential Care Home

We’re all counting down the days until spring arrives; with days getting longer, nights getting shorter and the temperature slowly getting warmer, the flowers are blooming amongst the spring air; it’s the perfect time to start thinking about getting back outside. This is important for all of our residents and we encourage it more than ever when the weather starts to pick up, garden activities and a little gentle exercise does wonders for our residents. For older people, spending time outdoors has many benefits, both mentally and physically, and we try hard to facilitate opportunities for our residents at Queens View Care Home in Ayrshire.

Benefits Of The Outdoors For Older People

Improved Physical Health - Spending time outside can improve our residents overall physical health in more ways than one. Helping maintain healthy bones, increased vitamin D levels, reducing the risk of falls and overall improving their balance and mobility. It’s also known to lower the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases and other certain cancers.

Better Mental Health - Being outside amongst nature can also have a massive positive impact on our residents mental health, it can reduce feelings such as stress and anxiety, improving their moods and increasing their cognitive stimulation. Some may say that spending time outside, breathing in the fresh air, seeing the beautiful flowers and taking in that sunshine can not only boost mood swings, but also reduce the risk of depression and dementia.

Better Quality Of Sleep - Exercise itself is beneficial for getting a better nights sleep and our wellbeing team promote this. However, by getting outside, even if it’s for a short walk, you’re exposing yourself to plenty of daylight, therefore helping regulate circadian rhythms.

Promotes Social Connection - Spending time outside can also provide residents with opportunities amongst other residents for social connections. Older people can tend to feel lonely or isolated and they can benefit greatly from spending time outside with others in the homes community, wether that’s through care home garden activities, such as gardening or golf, or just enjoying taking walks around the garden with other residents, friends or family members.

It Feels GREAT - Everyone knows how important it is at times to get a change of scenery, well lets use this as an opportunity to commune with nature and build relationships. By getting outside, enjoying the vibrant green grass and fresh scents, with sunshine on their faces, our care home residents feel so much better!

How To Tempt Older People Outside

Reflecting on the many benefits to being outside, there’s also a couple of ideas on how we can encourage our residents to get outside more often.

Encourage Outdoor Activities - Here at Queens View Harbour Care Home, we have a team of wellbeing coordinators to provide support and arrange engaging and enjoyable outdoor activities that are manageable for our residents, giving them an opportunity to get outside. Many activities can range from gardening, bird watching, nature walks or even just sitting outside enjoying the fresh air. If we don’t do activities based within our care home, we often provide day trips out for our residents where we do all sorts, from visiting the local area within the town to communal areas for walking and socialising.

Personalised Wellness Care Plans - We’re passionate about ensuring our residents realise how important good health and physical movement is. Every single one of our residents has a personalised plan, and within, a wellness plan which ensures each resident spends a healthy amount of time outdoors per week. We also like to remind our residents of the freedom they have to go outside and enjoy the fresh air.

Queens View Harbour's Garden

Here at Queens View Harbour Care Home, we’re lucky enough to have our very own planted garden, allowing residents to enjoy a peaceful outside space to get their vitamin D, stretch their legs and fully appreciate the natural beauty of the world we live in, its another place for them to relax. Our gardens are perfect for individuals to have some alone time, or for a spot of afternoon tea with a loved one.

As mentioned briefly earlier, our wellbeing and activity coordinators arrange activities, as well as gardening clubs where our residents can take part, smelling the plants and other various flowers in the garden, along with planting in there and our allotments we have, as well as replenishing the bird feeders. We’re always proud to say, that there is something for every single one of our residents, all thanks to our garden amenities. Everyone here at Queens View Harbour Care Home looks forward to the warmer, sunnier months just as much as the cold winter months. We ensure to make the most out of the dry days and warm weather as much as possible, we engage our residents with providing outside BBQs and entertainment for all to enjoy on a regular basis. Our garden can be just as beautiful in the winter, transforming into a Winter Wonderland, enhancing all of our senses.

The great outdoors is a multi-sensory environment, as much as 30 minutes outside can provide a great boost for our residents wellbeing. So, what are we all waiting for? Let’s head outside and if you’d like to contact us more about our wonderful care home, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, we'd be happy to talk you through our services, skills, garden activities and outdoor space.
