Celebrating a Lifelong RNLI Connection

A visit to the RNLI

A special day unfolded for Carol, a resident at Queens View Harbour Care Home, as she returned to her roots and reconnected with a lifelong passion. On a recent sunny afternoon, Carol, accompanied by her sons Bill and Stewart, attended the RNLI Station Open Day in Troon. This heartwarming event was a testament to Carol's unwavering dedication to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and the unwavering support of the care home staff.

70 Years of Dedication and Support

Carol's connection to the RNLI goes back to her youth, spanning an impressive seventy years of support. In her earlier years, she actively participated in fundraising efforts, collecting donations door-to-door, helping at events, and even baking countless batches of shortbread and meringues to support the cause. Her dedication and financial acumen led her to serve as the local financial convener, handling the Branch accounts for many years. In recognition of her extraordinary contributions, Carol was honoured with the prestigious RNLI Silver Medal in the early eighties.

A Passion Rekindled

Even as her practical involvement decreased in later years, Carol's passion for the RNLI and its life-saving mission never wavered. At Queens View Harbour, her stories about the RNLI and her cherished memories of receiving her medal in London are well-known among residents and staff.

Recognising the importance of this connection, the care home's Wellbeing Coordinator, Clea, went above and beyond to arrange Carol's visit to the Station Open Day, even accompanying her on her day off.

A Shared Moment of Pride

The outing was a resounding success. Carol's face lit up as she walked through the familiar lifeboat station, surrounded by the sights and sounds that have held a special place in her heart for decades. Her sons were thrilled to share this experience with her, witnessing the joy and pride she felt in revisiting her cherished connection to the RNLI.

The event also served as a beautiful reminder of the interconnectedness between the care home and the Troon community. The RNLI, with its rich history in Troon, holds a special place in the hearts of many locals. Carol's story resonated deeply, showcasing the power of lifelong dedication and the positive impact individuals can have on their community.
