Queens View Harbour Hosts Successful Make-A-Wish Fundraiser

Charity Event

This month, Queens View Harbour Care Home demonstrated its commitment to supporting the wider community by organising a series of fundraising events for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The care home’s residents, staff, and families all came together to contribute to this meaningful cause, resulting in a total of £1200 raised so far, with donations still coming in.

The fundraising began during Chinese New Year, when staff had the opportunity to donate a small amount in exchange for a delicious Chinese meal, thoughtfully prepared by the talented kitchen team. This event not only raised funds but also allowed everyone to celebrate the cultural occasion with a special meal.

One of the most anticipated events was suggested by Activities Co-ordinator Lorena, who bravely took on a sponsored silence. Those who know Lorena understand just how much of a challenge this would be! She committed to staying silent for five hours during her shift, and in return, staff and residents’ families were encouraged to donate in support of her efforts.

Despite the silence, Lorena continued to engage with the residents and facilitate activities. With the help of Clea and the residents, she successfully led a day filled with engaging events, including arts and crafts, an exercise class, and a gardening group. Each hour completed was met with celebration from the residents, who fully supported her challenge.

The event was met with overwhelming encouragement from staff, families, and residents alike. The sense of community and generosity was palpable, leaving everyone feeling uplifted and proud of their collective achievement.

The care home is grateful for everyone’s support and contributions, and with donations still coming in, the final total for Make-a-Wish is expected to grow even further. Queens View Harbour Care Home continues to prioritise community engagement and charitable initiatives, making a meaningful impact on those in need.
